Early Spring Launches Fill Marina Slips Ahead of Schedule

This spring has brought unusually warm waters to coastal areas along the Eastern Seaboard, leading boaters to launch their vessels earlier than typical seasons.

Marina operators in Massachusetts and Rhode Island report full slips weeks ahead of schedule. Many facilities hit capacity by mid-April rather than the traditional Memorial Day rush.

Local harbormaster Jim Reynolds noted the trend. “We’ve seen steady 65-degree water temps since late March. That’s almost unprecedented,” he said during a recent interview.

The early season start has created both opportunities and challenges. Boat maintenance shops saw increased demand for winterization reversals. Fuel docks needed to staff up sooner than planned.

Weather forecasters suggest this pattern may continue through summer months. Boaters should stay updated on local conditions and marina availability as the season progresses.
